Short of going to medical school and becoming a vet, I know of no job working hands-on with dogs that pays anywhere near what a professional manager in tax makes. But I have heard of wealthy people that leave their fortune to their pet when they die. Perhaps you can be a tax manager for one of these dogs.
Agreed. My father in law is a vet have his own clinic. He makes millions a year but he has no free time! My bother in law though he is an emergency vet. He only works 3 days a week makes a little under tax manager. But plenty of PTO…
I could be writing this! Right now I just hope to retire early and spend retirement volunteering at shelters and places where I can make a difference.
Are you me?! 💚
If you’re craving time with animals, maybe start small. Like volunteer at a shelter on weekends or foster pets. Test the waters before a full switch. Are there jobs combining animals and steady pay? You don’t have to quit now, but planning a gradual pivot could save stress later. Your happiness matters as much as your paycheck.

Dude take a day off and volunteer at an animal shelter lol
Set boundaries at work. If you’re close to a shelter, go over for 1-2 hours a day (dog walks on lunch, etc.). I used to do this all the time when I worked/lived nearby a shelter in Chicago-would walk the 3 blocks over on my lunch break and walk/play with dogs for 30-45 minutes and walk back to work. Would just eat lunch at my desk. I actually got a co-worker involved and she would join me a couple days a week.
There are non profits that need people with a background in finance (not sure that's exactly your background). The pay may be less but you may feel more fulfilled with knowing how your job is indirectly helping kids/animals etc. If you are wanting a job that is just cuddling puppies....well wouldn't that be a dream? It's hard balancing needing to make a livable salary and doing what your heart wants.
Yea I would invest as much as you can and try to do that sort of thing as you get older in life.
Do this and volunteer with dogs at the weekend.
Or go down to 4 days and do 1 with dogs. Tax manager is bread and butter. Retaining as a vet ia costly and will affect your QoL
My friend is a corporate professional and makes an extra $20K a year through gigs on Rover.
I would love a job in Tax, I am currently an aspiring tax accountant. Good luck with your career change. Can you become a accountant for an animal shelter or farm
You could start a dog walking business. I’ve heard some people make A LOT of money doing that.
