You should seriously think about living in either city. Both are monstrously expensive. I live in NYC and have for my entire career.
I could barely make ends meet here when I began my career.
Unless you have a solid cash reserve I would advise against both places. NYC is a tough place to live on a low income. Or are you inheriting a large book of business ?

Getting established is hard work anywhere. Once established relocation is hard. So choose where you want to spend your life. Both cities are extremely different. Which fits your personality better. Where is your family.
PS. My personal opinion is that starting a FA career where you have roots... family, friends and connections is the way to go
Avoid SF like the plague. It’s literally the worlds most valuable public toilet.
I’m not trying to be mean or petty, but SF has undergone a very negative change in the past 20 years. Yes, it’s still pretty in some astronomically expensive neighborhoods. And, those same neighborhoods may even be clean. But, as a whole, the city is indeed being used as a public toilet. It reeks from the moment you step out of a BART station and onto the street. There is feces everywhere and it smells of urine in the Financial District. Used drug paraphernalia everywhere as well. I, too, live in the east bay and used to commute in. It was a great day when I no longer had to do that. It’s very sad what happened to a once incredible place.
I am in NYC in my 5th year making $70k and poor as *****. Rent is astronomical and a dozen eggs at the grocery store going for $10.99
NYC is no place to live if you make under 150k a year. And even that you are on a super tight budget.
All of Florida is a gold mine. Just saying...
Grew up in SF and 14 year career as advisor here, it's wonderful. But wonderful for me because it's home; family, friends, community, familiarity. Moving here from somewhere else and having to pay to live here as a new place to put roots down is another story. Regardless, people keep coming and that continues the cost of living hikes. Lots of clients are shocked to know I'm a "native" when they find out I am a local and still living here. Lol.
