Please don't take offense when I turn down a role with which I'll quickly bore and move on from at the first opportunity I get once the economy improves. I can do help desk support roles in my sleep and offering me a nibble at an apple for low pay isn't something in which I'm interested. Compensation, while a big part of what people like me want, isn't all of what we want. Challenge, collaboration, learning, and teaching are also big parts of what we want.

Are FAANG companies really the place to be for SWE’s? I want to work for one but I’m worried about culture & work/life balance.

Once you get into a FAANG company, is it better to stay where you are or move around? I’m a dissatisfied with my current job but I have vesting stocks, work 9-5, and people to know and respect me. I am the sole provider for my family and value quality of life and stability. I have some interview requests from other FAANG companies that I know pay more but I worry about starting over. Anyone switch companies and either regret it or are glad they did?

I interviewed with a company last week and the interviewer said he would submit my notes to the hiring manager and I would hear back this Monday from HR on next steps/if they want to move forward. I didn’t hear back yesterday so I emailed HR and she said she wasn’t part of the hiring decision so would reach out to the initial interviewer for his feedback. I haven’t heard from her and it’s been 24 hours - starting to get worried. What should I do? Does this mean they’re not interested?
