Do finance teams sometimes become the default owner of bad news? I’ve noticed we’re often the messenger, but not always the root cause.

I mean the job is to just deliver the numbers. It’s funny, when we present solid results in reviews, leaders get upset that we aren’t enthusiastic enough. I don’t think it’s our job to do that - we just lay out the numbers.

I think the job is more than that

Good news and bad news!

The problem is that the folks we report to almost always expect (and take credit for) the good news, never the bad news.

Good point

uplifting

I agree with VP 1 above, I think there is good and bad news. I assume this doesn't just happen to finance teams though. I often think it happens to HR as well.

Totally agree

I’ve doing this for a good number of years. I think I depleted almost completely my interest in this business. When I’m out of the office or during the weekends I get into a “leave me alone state” and don’t want to know anything about the office. I actually just want to get in the agency, do the best I can within the time I have available, and get out. In a business where “the most committed wins” this is not an ideal mindset, but I’m done. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

Does anyone know the salary of a beginner para planner at Ameriprise or any other broker-dealer?

I need help figuring out if I’m being underpaid. I’m working in real estate private equity and I focus on fund models and property valuations. I’m currently at base $80k and 20% bonus. On top of that I have 5 years experience and a masters in finance. I’m good at my job and receive positive reviews from everyone. I feel like I should be compensated better but the company says that’s what they think I’m worth. Any help or insights would be great!
