Do law firms ever verify the work that you say you do on your resume or during an interview? I have never experienced a law firm reaching out to a previous employer/firm for any sort of reason.

They may reach out at the end of the process for references but probably not to verify substance. But anyone you’re interviewing with who is asking substantive questions about your experience will be able to tell from how you speak about it if you actually know what you’re talking about. I practiced before I got into recruiting and you can just tell when someone is b.s.ing about their work. Also if you somehow get past that and get the job, when you can’t deliver on the ground your cover is blown and good luck keeping that job. So. What the first person said. Don’t lie…in general, including on your resume.

How would this work? Wouldn't that all be attorney-client privilege, etc? I mean...don't lie in general.

Every firm (AmLaw 200 and BigLaw) I’ve worked for has verified, including calling former employers to confirm dates I indicated as having been employed there.
Small firms often lack the resources to do the same, but my experience is that BigLaw consistently checks.

They confirm dates and your title. That’s it

No.

They might ask about substantive experience during an interview and ask you to talk a little bit more about that experience

Hi everyone! Can anyone tell me what you make as a typical banquet/events manager for salary or per hour? I’ve worked for Marriott/Bonvoy at the Ritz and for the Curio Collection with Hilton as a bartender/server/banquets captain. Now I’m working for a privately owned hotel and as a manager role in Banquets/Events. Because of pandemic times, what is everyone else making?

Advise on handling rates negotiations with BIPOC and non-male creators? I always want to accept first bid and get uncomfortable when my bosses push to undercut rates (especially now when money is tight), because there is a whole history of BIPOC and non-male people getting paid less. I’ve tried to push back but struggle to articulate this to them. (For the record, I’m POC female and my bosses are white males, and race/gender convos are already very difficult with them.)

Hii Guys, Could anyone give me some clarity on the below point. I have cleared 2nd round of technical interview at Deloitte, but my candidature is still showing as interview in progress at Deloitte careers page. I had a discussion with HR on this and she told me that next process is pending from management side. It's been almost 10 days since from 2 nd round of interview. How much more time does it gonna take, any idea? Or is it normal. Please help me with this 🙏🙏 .Deloitte

Is it irrational for me to get an “ick” for this?

I went on a “date” recently. I paid for the tab as they were going to the bathroom. As we were leaving they said “thanks for lunch” — I was hoping they’d at least ask to Venmo me half as a kind gesture. Following lunch we grabbed dessert. I was hoping they’d offer to cover dessert since I covered lunch but it didn’t happen.

I am fine w/ paying but I was hoping the gesture would at least be presented… am I crazy?

Transactional junior associate in biglaw. Working for a dedicated practice group rather than in an associate pool. For the past few months, I’ve been loaned to another practice group for a good chunk of time. While the people are decent and the hours aren’t terrible, I detest the work and don’t see a future in this new practice. My main partner says it should end in the next month, but I don’t expect that to happen. Is it a terrible idea to ask to be taken off?

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that. Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. (I’m a first year, first time negotiating a settlement on my own and I don’t want to screw this up!)
