I'm not sure I understand how you've phrased the question because I would not call recognizing talent "unconscious bias." We reward talent and hard workers, that's how this industry (and most industries) works. I consider bias to be when you have something against someone *despite* their good work or talent. Obviously it's important to challenge that instinct if you have it.
Yes, I've definitely had unconscious biases, and almost always during project assignments. It's natural to gravitate towards team members who consistently deliver exceptional work or align closely with our creative vision, so I don't see any reason to see it as wrong. However, I've learned that unchecked biases can lead to missed opportunities for growth, both for individuals and the team as a whole. So keep an open mind and just follow your gut on who all would comprise the best team for your projects.
I appreciate your honesty in recognizing your unconscious biases. It's a challenge many of us face, and I've certainly encountered similar situations in my career.
This used to just be called “fairness”, no?
