I actually think it's me, I think my confidence is affected when I don't have that and my makeup done at work. Probably my moms fault, she always dressed up every day for work and told me I should do the same.

YES!!! I hate when people are like OMG love the new hair, is that yours or a wig? Like why would you even ask that. And when I don't have my hair done everyone thinks I am down and out or depressed or something. I have often noticed the same reaction when I don't have my makeup done versus when I do.
I took her stylists’ info to make sure I never inadvertently go to her. If she wants to look like she has Barbie hair that’s on her. As for me and my curls, we are good.
I do feel less than when my nails aren’t done, and I don’t wear acrylic nails, just a manicure, but my hair being straight doesn’t matter. I think they’re more comfortable when my hair is straight but idgaf
I don’t think so. I’ve never gotten my nails done though.
I feel like I have to “wealth” signal to be respected at work. I notice eyes on my shoes, my hair, my jewelry, my bag all the time. It makes me feel like I have to be super put together to feel valued if I’m not put together, polished and “looking like I belong”. It’s exhausting but I also think it’s just part of the experience.
