Do you feel like having your nails and hair done changes how you're treated at work? I didn't have my hair done this week and the change in treatment was drastic, I was so surprised. I never realized how much having my hair relaxed changed my appearance.

I actually think it's me, I think my confidence is affected when I don't have that and my makeup done at work. Probably my moms fault, she always dressed up every day for work and told me I should do the same.

YES!!! I hate when people are like OMG love the new hair, is that yours or a wig? Like why would you even ask that. And when I don't have my hair done everyone thinks I am down and out or depressed or something. I have often noticed the same reaction when I don't have my makeup done versus when I do.

I took her stylists’ info to make sure I never inadvertently go to her. If she wants to look like she has Barbie hair that’s on her. As for me and my curls, we are good.

I do feel less than when my nails aren’t done, and I don’t wear acrylic nails, just a manicure, but my hair being straight doesn’t matter. I think they’re more comfortable when my hair is straight but idgaf

I don’t think so. I’ve never gotten my nails done though.

I feel like I have to “wealth” signal to be respected at work. I notice eyes on my shoes, my hair, my jewelry, my bag all the time. It makes me feel like I have to be super put together to feel valued if I’m not put together, polished and “looking like I belong”. It’s exhausting but I also think it’s just part of the experience.

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Hello All,
I am finishing up my second year of practice as a lawyer. I transitioned to plaintiffs pi work from a boutique commercial litigation firm. I like the work and not having to bill.
