Do you feel like there are golden handcuffs in tech? I see this in consulting and some parts of big law. Someone told me they thought tech was the biggest golden handcuffs. Not sure if I agree. Thoughts?

Oh I think that pre IPO employee stocks for certain companies are definitely golden handcuffs, some other you treat as scratch paper instead, as there is no guarantee that they'll ever be valued

Ya I didn’t even think of stock options. But definitely the promise of IPO

I think tech has golden handcuffs, but they are quieter. It is less about prestige and more about comp, comfort, and flexibility. You can leave, but walking away from pay, stability, and low stress relative to other industries is what makes it hard.

Ya I agree. It is definitely a prestigious role.

Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.

I have a friend who was let go a few months into his first job after college (reason: the manager felt like he wasn't grasping the training content to the level that was expected). He's worried about if he should put the experience on his resume anyway, if he does will recruiters ask why he had such a short time at this place, and what will recruiters think if he explains he was let go. What are some things recruiters expect from candidates in this situation to continue considering them?
