In senior board rooms, we have to be extra careful. At senior levels, you want to be seen for your work and competence and avoid any reasons for anyone to “cancel you”. It is critical for influence that matters and uplifts others. Otherwise you will continue to see more Gazas in your lifetime.
Absolutely. We can attract curiosity through our actions. Attract, Pull, vs Push.
No tbh, might also be because i identify as Indian. Feel that more of who i am is where my parents and grandparents are from rather than a religious belief that is found anywhere in the world.
To me it feels kind of basic to identify yourself based on your religion. Not many people do that. They usually state their ethnicity.
Not sure how it’s basic to identify yourself based on religion when you just said most people identify based on ethnicity…
Anyway, Islam always takes precedence over culture. That’s why I identify as Muslim American and not Bengali American
WHY does any professional need or want to have their religion or ethnicity identity 'visible' at their place of employment? Keep your personal life private and focus on the job at hand. Simple!
Yes it’s definitely not as easy to hide - we are visible
Yeah, beard
I mean it’s true. My testosterone level is at 650, which is a very good and healthy level at 24, but my beard didn’t come in till I was about 21
Yes, I pray on time and ask to leave for the Friday prayer
That’s amazing OW1 - in a similar boat where I block my calendar for Friday prayers too.
I would say in the past no, but I’m making it more apparent these days
Was there something that shifted for you? For me it was going to Hajj and after that started keeping a beard
Rising Star
like physically?
lol idk about you guys but I think that was hilarious. Not that deep
Yes absolutely
So much clickbait….
I am a humble yet flawed Christian who tries to live through deeds, not words. I don't need a Muslim identity even though I wish them the best. If I can do one good thing for someone every day, it is a day well spent.
Why are you here then lol
What has religion got to do with working? The sooner we remove this sigma the sooner we can become more productive at work
You sound like a capitalist and not like a Muslim
Reminder for a lot of the folks commenting here that our sisters who wear hijab cannot simply suppress their muslimness to advance in the workplace. Its oftentimes the first thing people see. Although the white passing Muslim in the boardroom is important to uplift our community in other ways, not everyone has that option. We should make space for Muslims who feel inclined to be visibly Muslim in the same way we make space for those who are able to / inclined to suppress it. Everyone has a role to play dismantling the stigmas associated with our identity as Muslims. At the end of the day all of our success is attributed to Allah anyway.
Very well said!
