With all due respect to D1, please dont go to an Imam. You rightly recognized that you need professional counselling and therapy. I found a Muslim counsellor with the same cultural background as ours and it has immensely helped me and my spouse. My spouse tried a few mosque based counsellors and the advice was horrendous to say the least. Counselling needs professional training to identify deep seated issues that could be based on anger, guilt, trauma, troubled childhood, mental health etc, which need to be treated through various well established therapy approaches.
I agree- I think I won’t be myself and neither will my spouse in front of an imam. But I’m willing to give both a try. I want to have the religious view on things mainly because I believe it is the strongest ally for a woman- the rights and examples we have are unmatched and hard to argue with. A professional counselor may helpful us resolve the top level and psychological issues for growth and development. Thanks for this
Please look into Khalil Center. They are mostly in Chicago and California but heard they may be opening in NYC too. Their website also has a list of resources that might be beneficial. They are licensed therapists with some level of Islamic training. They aren’t going to tell you pray away the bad. Check it out and let me know if you think it’s what you’re looking for

Second this. Khalil Center are great and have an amazing track record across the US.
Also, if you want to consider tele-therapy, that opens up your options.
Go to Mosque closest to you and talk to Imam. Worked for me.
Don't do this
There’s one in Manhattan and queens. I think Chowdhury is her last name? Can’t remember first
She used to do some days in the manhattan office.
Didn’t like my experience with two Muslim therapists. Dr Charles Nnadi is great and understands cultural/religious context. Nigerian doc
I would say give a therapist a shot, even if they’re non Muslims. A good counselor should be able to identify marital issues and help you resolve it irrespective of difference in faith.
