Do you use iPad for work? If so, how? I’m a senior associate. The partner I work for recently got an iPad with cellular data and recommended the set up to me. He uses it to take calls, review documents and do emails especially while travelling. He also takes the iPad to physical meetings now instead of his laptop, to look at meeting materials & take notes. I’m not sure how useful an iPad would be to an associate, given I don’t think it’s the right tool to do mark ups on. Thoughts?

Partner work is veeeery different than associate work. For the type of work you’d do on your phone, the tablet is better. But you’re not doing substantive work on your phone…

“XR Glasses” give you all the benefits of a second screen in the form factor of a pair of Wayfarer’s

I have also been thinking of getting an ipad to keep notes on and be more organized than trying to keep track of my hundreds of hand written notes. But I’m also worried it might not be the best for that.

I just use it as a screen to keep my inbox on and generally reference emails. I find that I can’t really do much drafting and other super substantive things on it but it’s great as a more “passive” additional screen.

Yeah this is the one big limitation (no screen extension). I use a PC as well.

I use a mini for handwritten notes directly into one note, emails by dictation, and marking up documents that can be done by hand on the move.

We have firm iPads but no one uses it. It’s heavy with the keyboard and you still have to bring your laptop. We don’t go to that many in person meetings so we can take notes by typing.

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?

What questions should senior associates be asking to get a better assessment of partnership prospects? For context, I’m eligible this year as an 8th year, but it’s more common to make it around years 10-11 at my firm (only equity partners), and I’m trying to determine whether to stick around or lateral before I’m too senior. I’m in a smaller group that historically promotes only one new partner every few years, and there are several others also eligible. Any questions I should avoid asking?
