Does your firm let you take 28-30 December off? Many of my team members won’t be working those days and I decided last minute that I’d like to travel somewhere between Christmas and the New Year.

Can be a challenging time to take off especially last minute but very common for folks to be traveling and handle their business from wherever they are. Office empty even pre covid.

In M&A that’s a no go.

like

True. Last year I had COVID and got lucky that things were slow. The year before I was drowning and almost missed a family party entirely due to year end signings/closings.

It depends on your practice group. Barely anyone in litigation works those days, but those are the busiest days of the year in some other practices.

like

Corporate--that's off limits

like

Definitely depends. All of my deals except a small, slow moving deal have closed, so this is actually a great time for me to take a trip. Same thing last year - first three weeks of December were brutal, but everything closed before Christmas and I billed like 8 hours from Dec 26-31.

Just gotta use some common sense.

Very group/practice dependent.

like

CRE associate here, basically nobody takes off because there’s usually end of year closings but if you aren’t staffed on any then would probably be fine.

Depends on the practice area. In mine, things are legitimately dead during dead week.

Thanks all, I’m in litigation and I don’t think I billed even an hour on those 3 days last year! I think I might not take any days off officially and simply be on standby.
