I haven't heard of them before. Have you tried reading reviews on Glassdoor? I find that those can usually be very insightful. Best of luck to you.
I interviewed with them in the last couple years, but am more senior. It’s a distributed firm, so fully remote, little overhead, and partners keep a much higher percentage of their originations than a traditional firm. Great for them. Most people I met were nice enough.
For associates, I’d avoid unless it’s the best option you have because I imagine the training is going to be less robust than a traditional firm. Most of the people I met with are former big law, but so are many of the in-house counsel I work with (and that means nothing most of the time in my experience).
Associate comp is likely below market because rates are much lower. As such, work life balance should average out to be better. But earlier in your career, drinking from the firehose of biglaw is more advantageous if you can do it. VLP is where you go to chill and do tech work if you don’t want to stay in big law. It’s unlikely their clients stick with them through their life cycle, as they don’t have the resources to support an IPO and certain investors of a later stage private company may want more of a name player in the tech firm space. It is Chambers ranked in CA technology work, band 4 or 5 if I remember correctly.
