Every time I take a week off, it feels like my inbox has been breeding while I’m gone. I started booking half-days post-vacation just to triage without meetings. And before I leave, I assign specific tasks to coworkers instead of vague “can you keep an eye on…” asks. It’s not perfect, but it cuts down the chaos. Honestly, we need to normalize actual coverage for short breaks too.

I’ll have to try this trick. It really is like everyone waits until you’re gone to ask for stuff
Luckily my team is great about not leaving a bunch of work piling up, a lot of delegation and working together. Not only does it take it off that one person it really does help everybody so we aren’t waiting on one anyways. Not fun coming back from a vaca with so much more to do than normal.

That’s so amazing to hear that some places can make it work! I feel like it is in everyone’s best interest, it’s almost like if you help me then I’ll help you!
