I used Imagine Math for the last 5 years. The kids really dreaded doing it and the lessons were too long to finish in a class period unless if they passed the pre-quiz. The only thing that kept them motivated was the Pizza Party the class could earn (that you or your school have to pay for) and I had a Top 10 board that I would update weekly. Kids loved to see their names on that board.
We have used it for two years. I wasn’t a big fan at first because we were required to use one period of a week with the students on it. However there was a very clear and direct correlation between lessons passed and growth made on benchmark testing over a year. It is important to get the kids on board right away. We do incentives like a raffle ticket per lesson passed. Also...the students love to play with their avatars and will for the whole period. You can restrict this setting if you want.
Thanks for the information. It is growing on me. I was thinking about using it in order to meet with smaller groups next year. Where do you control how much they use the Avatar?
