If you have your PMP, was it worth it?
I’m in between projects. I have been for a while now. So if anyone is looking for a freelance copy and u/x writer, put me in coach! I’m available to work.
Check out my portfolio and let me know if we’re a good profit match.

I’m also open to feedback on my portfolio. Thanks!

Do some research as that’s just not true. My boss is SVP…and I’ve seen EVP.

Agree w/SPM1. Many PMs have elevated titles. But OP, you’ve tapped into a vein with a lot of truth. The role is diminished in many ways. Reporting to AM or others is one of the most egregious. PM in many ways is an enablement function. More defense (prevent bad things) than offense - midfield at best. Behind the scenes, not on stage. See where I’m going with this? Recognition (and titles) tend to go to others. Perhaps most painful - so, does salary. Check your rate card. Be careful what you wish for. Guess who ends up on the RIF list one you, your title, and your salary get up there and you’re a discipline lead - i.e. not highly billable?
More about the battle we wage:
- Success has many parents, failure is an orphan - e.g. Who owns a late or over budget project?
- “Who wants to meet at the PM tent at Cannes”, said no one ever.
- The point in this clip, made about producers, delivered by Dustin Hoffman to Robert Deniro in “Wag the Dog” is embedded in my aged blog and hits the nail on the head.

It sucks. PM gets blamed if there is a problem but no credit when there is praise
What should the difference be between a VP and SVP and EVP in project management? Genuinely asking..
You can always take it to your agency lead and just say you feel like you’re capped out and want more growth opportunities, just be ready to explain how that would benefit the org and not just you.
I think the peak of our discipline is Chief Operations Officer (COO). After you get past the SVP level, your role becomes more focused on client operations.

I’ve always thought the same. Obviously, there’s similar DNA. I’ve drifted into Ops my whole career. If that broader context, which itself suffers from a lack of definition itself, is messy, PM has no chance. These days I say that I major in PM and minor in Ops.
For a brief moment, Chief Delivery Officer showed up. I haven’t seen it since the below.

PM is the speed bump in the road within the advertising world. If you are looking for accolades, poems written in your honor, or a statue erected, you have chosen the wrong career path. If you like to guide and direct a team to ensure they can bring their client's vision to life, if you like herding cats, dipping your hand in different cookie jars, and serving as the orchestra conductor, then being a PM is for you. And while a higher title is achievable, don't chase titles, chase knowledge and building your skillsets.
