You are going to go to war against pwc? Your employer who pays your bills? Over an email signature?

I am in full agreement MBG these people just don’t understand.
If you work at PwC you should understand why. It’s because your email typically gets sent to many people often not in the state you are licensed in and therefore it creates unnecessary legal risk of you holding yourself out as a cpa in a territory you are not actually licensed in.
coming soon does not mean it can be used as protection against lawsuits now
The reason why I’ve heard the B4 and a lot of large firms do this is because CPAs are licensed at the state level. Its not uncommon if you work on engagements across state lines so they don’t want to worry about misrepresenting staff as CPAs in a certain state when there not.
If you’re a manager or above it’s pretty well known you must have your cpa to be a manger or above. And if you’re a staff I would imagine your clients probably don’t care. So not sure what you are making such a big deal about it.
Yeah, but that does not qualify as "working across state lines". Work is completed in their home state, so that can't be a valid reason.

I think you’re taking this too personally. I’ve been at EY since 2010 and have never had my designation on my email. You’ll survive.
It’s all about the branding. Everything above is just fugazi
How is someone going to mistake my designation location when my signature and my linked in profile has my city and state
Not only that there’s no rule against serving clients nationwide or even globally.
Literally every single CPA serves clients globally and if your firm doesn’t you don’t work at a real CPA firm.
All of these posts are just excuses.
I worked for my designation and I’m allowed to use it. I’ll die on this hill and if anyone fires me they can expect a lawsuit
Isaak is asking the real question
If CPA means nothing why stop people from using it?
I think the issue is having to remove it on LinkedIn… read the fine print they can’t ask you to remove on LinkedIn but can ask that you take any mention of it out of your job profile or email signature…. My previous employer did this after a PE investment and subsequent restructuring. Also further note, if you change things on your LinkedIn be sure you turn notices off so you don’t alert everyone you know to the change
You make it sound like no chicks will be interested in you now that your "CPA" is removed. I'm sure they have been throwing themselves at you.
Doubt it. CPAs are the sexiest, hands down! If the mods would permit it, I'd post here what CPA really stands for. Chicks, yes. The word is so evocative of my youth, and conjures images of sweet, smiling chicks. 'Course it's been a while since anyone of my preferred gender threw themselves at me. What I wouldn't give to go back in time, to a Dead concert when Owsley was the cook, and we got our chicks for free...
What’s the reason for removing the designation?
Stroll down a few posts… happening at CR now.
Yes but I think the real issue is trying to force employees to take it off their social media. That is their property to do with what they want. FYI they can’t force you to do it. No matter what way they phrase it… it’s a request
If some idiot can have "MBA", let me have CPA
You are representing the company. If they don't want you to put CPA after your name, then deal with it. The only rules of the profession is that you can't hold yourself out to be a CPA when you aren't. (The opposite)
What’s the point of this though?
Someone else posted that cohenreznick is also requiring employee to remove CPA from their profile. Is this something popping up at all firms?
lol. This makes me glad I’m in a field where CPA is just a feather and not a requirement. What a joke.
Lol. I realize all of this. I earned my degree at 31. With four kids. Working and going to school full time. Wife working full time as a nurse. I’m no stranger to not being able to be there for my family. I already took those years from them. I am not in tax or audit, nor do I care to be at this stage of my life. If there is a non-tax/audit job that thinks I am less than because I don’t have CPA then I am fine passing on them because it sounds like they think the designation says more than it really does. I get the legal value it has but it does not apply to or benefit me. The only other value is network value because CPAs think that because they did it, you should to. Not to say I won’t ever get but I am glad it’s not a requirement for me.
Isn’t CPA is a universal exam and the content does not depend on the state? Each state may have an extra requirement for ethnics exam etc, but the CPA exam itself is the same no matter where you take it?
While states issue the license, the exam is by NASBA.
I do not understand why a CPA can’t use CPA designation. Makes no sense.

Again…you aren’t losing your CPA license or designation. It’s a friggin email signature line, that’s the complaint 🤦♂️
I’m guessing you don’t understand the legalities about CPAs only being licensed in certain states, and that your employer has to be careful about the CPA representations on a state by state basis.
They’re not stripping you of the CPA, just asking that the designation not be in certain places for liability reasons.
Wait are people getting in trouble for having it on linked in? I have cpa on my linked in but not in my firm email signature
It may all end up being moot. Elon has been fighting with the xenophobes in the Trump administration to keep the HB1 work visa program going strong. He wants to bring in hordes of rocket scientists, mostly from India because they work harder for half the money and are more compliant than spoiled westerners. Elon's words, not mine. From there it's a hop, skip, and a jump into the CPA Partners' boardroom. Outsourcing doesn't work for all engagements, not even all tax engagements. The really high level stuff is still done here. So the goal is to bring in the cheap labor, train and supervise them here in the U.S. and fire our spoiled arses...
How did you get to the place you are? What are your moral parameters? Are you really for truth or do you just like your paycheck? It’s been my experience as one of the “marginal few “who don’t fit into society of your kind that one who has achieved your level of society is probably not concerned with what really matters. Are you really for financial accounting that points to what’s really happening to the people who Jesus talks about? What I’ve learned at my advanced stage age is that your kind is all about oppression and keeping my kind as dirty and poor as you can get away with. Accounting is a farce that is subterfuge for my kind that Thai is someone is looking out for us. You lied to us. And I resent you. Why don’t you just take a nice drive in your BMW in the country and relax. Get yourself a nice room at a fancy hotel and enjoy yourself . You’ll be OK because Donald Trump loves you.
Wait a minute! Is the unwashed ragamuffin telling us what really matters?? How does he know if he doesn't have a Beemer?
When you accept any offer, you signed an agreement.
What does your employee agreement say that you signed with the firm? What does it say in regards to your social media?
I don't think an organization like AICPA would get involved with employment contract disputes.
I got my CPA back in 2014. I've never used it on my email signatures, LinkedIn Profiles or anything. Not big of a deal IMO.
