Of course. And they talk through the idea of each script with me.
Do you just mean, describing a scene? If so, not really unless it’s something I overlooked that builds out the concept “say that the kitchen isnt very modern because this is a blue collar home”.
They’ll contribute to the script overall. But I don’t see visual descriptions as their sole domain.
Unfortunately, I’m the type of brain who needs to think on my own first, and then meet up with notes and rough script thoughts. But I didn’t explain it well. The final script should be a reflection of both partners having ideas. It’s not just “here’s MY script - go find some key visuals.” And if OP is struggling to get a partner involved, an approach might be to say, “let’s digest this brief and then get together tomorrow with a few rough thoughts per person.” I could have phrased this better.
This is all helpful. I’m thinking my partner is a little bit inexperienced with film as a medium and I probably need to hand-hold a little as they figure things out.
I write the scripts. But, when things are going according to plan and we have time, we concept rough ideas separately. Then, come together to talk things out, build on them, etc. Usually, they come out better than what we started with.
Then, I go away and write scriptlets. Share it with them to see how we can plus up scenes, or if they can help me close the loop on something I’m struggling with.
From there, I clean them up and turn them into proper scripts.
I like to remind myself that all my favorite shows typically have a room full of people throwing out ideas for a script. I try to treat concepting sessions the same way.

No. We usually riff ideas for a couple hours, then I go write scripts, and we look at them together and decide what to keep and what to ditch.
The only exception is when we're working on a VO over food-porn spot. They can write all about the camera sweeping over crispy hot chicken with visible steam swirling up. Because I definitely won't.
We write most scripts (including dialogue) together. I only write manifesto VO-driven scripts alone.
We talk it and I write it.
