If your employer is requiring you to for the education, you would think they would help you with tuition if it’s just a suggestion or a recommendation but ultimately the decisions on you that it’s hard to see why or employer would give you tuition reimbursement
Mine doesn't, which is too bad because I'd love to pursue an MBA but have no way of doing so on my own right now. On the somewhat bright side, at least it doesn't seem expected of me.
A company can do or say whatever when it comes to setting their qualifications, however it can be frustrating to be told you have to do it all on your own to succeed within the company. Doesn’t show a great interest in investing in talent. I wouldn’t say it is out of the norm, just depends where you are.
Just now bringing back the $5,250 financial assistance for education reimbursement.
But to your question, I would ask your boss to clarify if they were speaking in generality about your career or if they were speaking specifically about your career at your current employer. If they confirm they are speaking about your current employer, ask them if the company is willing to assist.
Be polite, but direct.
