I've been working as a host for an expensive restaurant for a year. Considering how much a dish costs here, I don't understand why we can't be paid well instead of having to rely on tips to survive.

Excato, that happens almost everywhere. I am so tired of working so that the only ones who benefit are them. They could do so much more for us employees but they just don't do it.

It's so frustrating, luckily I got a place where my pay and tips are really good. But where I started was really a total disappointment.

Good for you!! Hoping to find a better place for myself soon too :

I second that! There are very good nights for me, but then some nights are awful, I feel like I waste my time waiting for patrons to come in.

Such a a gamble every night it doesn't give me sense of stability in my life

Could you guys possibly talk to the owner of the restaurant to fix the situation? I know in other countries they don't rely on customers to survive, so why should we?

Ha I wish! sadly, I think this is just the state of things in this country

Because the entire restaurant model in the US is based on basically not having to pay staff any wages lol. Some states only require $2.13 an hour, which, after taxes is zero on your paycheck. Guests pay your wages so the restaurant can bring in a higher profit percentage.

Anyone working in Insurance Tax (Premium/State/Excise/SUT/etc.)? I’m feeling undervalued and burned out. I have been in my role for 5 years and I’m making 80k. I’m a top performer and on top of my defined role I also train new hires, manage the interns, and serve on several committees. Is this what I should be making as a Specialist? I generally enjoy what I do and the people I work with. Do I need to jump ship?

What's your favorite BBQ / rib place in Boston? We've had amazing takeout from The Smoke Shop in the Seaport during Covid lockdown. The ribs are pure heaven and the chicken wings are also amazing. I've just recently been hired as an assistant manager at a Canadian outlet store. It's a small company in comparison to others, but there are over 10 locations spanning western Canada and NW united states. I'm curious as to what others in a similar position are getting as salary. I was offered $42k plus bonuses at the interview, but when called back I was offered $44.5k plus bonuses. I already accepted. Did I leave money on the table here?
