I wish they would try to come into MY classroom and tell ME how to do MY job to meet MY standards with MY kids and teach MY curriculum. No ma'am, I am not the one. They may be SPED's babies when they are in the resource room or getting their SPED minutes, but when they are in my room partipating in my lesson, I will hold them just as accountable for their work and meeting my expectations as everyone else. Isn't that the point of inclusion? To have SPED students learn to function amongst those who aren't SPED?
AND, the state DOE & NCLB say that ALL students must meet the standards for your grade & subject. You, as the general ed teacher in your grade & your subject, are more of an expert in your standards and your curriculum than a SPED teacher. So who knows better what they need to learn and how they need to learn it?
Now, give the kids their accommodations and modifications as specified in the IEP, absolutely. But in that classroom, I am in charge of the learning hoing on and will not be usurped.

They try to tell me to dumb it down to 3rd grade level. However, I don't do that at all. I might change my expectations a little, offer extra time, and other accommodations. You have to teach the standards on grade level.
Thankfully I have a great relationship with our SPED teacher. She does a great job of staying organized and keeping me informed while letting me be the teacher in my classroom.
