DPW v. Skadden v. SullCrom

All NYC offices. I have a soft interest in Rx but hoping to explore during the summer and then decide (there are things I like about lit and corporate).

Depends what you want. I know at least two of those places will provide early courtroom experience representing indigent coal mining companies or fast tracking migrants to concentration camp.

For Rx, DPW > S&C >>>>> Skadden.

You should figure out to what extent each of these firms actually let people rotate through transactional/litigation/bankrtupcy after they start as first years - I know DPW does rotations and I think S&C starts people as generalists, but don’t know specifics of either model and the extent to which you have real flexibility in them - and otherwise go off vibes. Ignoring all that, I would say DPW because I’ve never had a bad experience working across them. But you will work crazy hours at DPW. Probably same at Skadden or S&C though.

like

At S&C you’re either litigation or general practice/corporate for two years (before you specialize). Bankruptcy falls under corporate. They’ll usually let people switch between lit/corp though if they change their minds soon enough.

Not those filthy liars at DPW.

My sense:

DPW: on upward trajectory but only became relevant a few years ago with their role on Purdue. LME focus has been good for them. Expect to work a lot.

Skadden: hit a rough patch compared to what it was in the 2000s and 2010s but solid culture and enough work to get good experience.

S&C: never known for Rx but struck gold with FTX and a handful of other reps. Harsher culture.

like

Wrong on DPW. It’s one of the early pioneers of RX with Weil and Wachtell, and has been one of the top creditor shops for decades. Your sense is only correct for their debtor side representation, which grew significantly in the past few years.

Avoid skadden if you’re srs about rx

Thanks, I really appreciate the detail. Any thoughts re dpw vs s&c?

You get sorted into a group very early at Skadden
