Maybe possible but I think it would be very difficult. What kind of work are you doing as a staff attorney? I think that may be more important than the title.
Any other prior experience? Can also try and do a clerkship and then try and get into government.
BK clerk in a non-major district nearing the end of my term. i had a few years of commercial lit experience prior to clerking and i don't have a desire to practice BK or Rx.
i'm a bit of an unconventional applicant (especially in this dismal lateral market) so i'm just trying to figure out my next move. my hope is to either stay in or eventually return to govt.
Got it. I don’t think a staff attorney role is a common path to government white collar and I think your Bk and Rx experience make it a bit more difficult too. I suppose you can try it though. And maybe go staff attorney to associate in white collar and then long term shoot for government exit.
You could also just go apply for a local DAs office and “start over” and see if you like prosecution and try and parlay that down the road to a DOJ job. You’ll have the trial skills and a demonstrated ability to write on complex financial cases
As a restructuring associate in big law trying to get to CFPB/FTC etc, I’ve been facing an uphill battle. Esp without traditional litigation experience, specifically trial experience. Can you try to get another clerkship at magistrate and or district court, or even state court if there’s a commercial division like NY?
Local DA is better than staff attorney for your purposes if you can get it.
