A few months ago I started using just tretinoin and moisturizer. I’ve recently received compliments on my clear skin, for the first time in my life. Tretinoin treats acne *and* wrinkles *and* increases collagen, it’s amazing.
A5, if birth control helps you a little, I bet spironolactone would help you a lot! It blocks some testosterone from working, which means less oil production. Lots of women take it for acne.
Depends on what your skin needs are. Except for tretinoin, most of my skincare is Korean or Japanese brands. Most of the brands are very affordable, yet extremely well formulated and very effective. At minimum, your skincare routine should be along these lines:
AM
- gentle cleanser or no cleanser (based on your skin type)
-moisturizer
-sunscreen (you can skip moisturizer and just apply sunscreen, but never skip sunscreen)
PM
- cleansing oil/balm or micellar water as a 1st cleansing to help break down oils on your skin and sunscreen
- gentle cleanser
- treatment (you can skip this step if your skin doesn’t have any particular concerns)
- moisturizer
My favorite brands are Beauty of Joseon, Instree, cosrx, Purito, I’m from
OP, nanoparticles entering the bloodstream is a concern with chemical sunscreens rather than mineral sunscreens. You'll want to check the ingredients. I switched to mineral when I was pregnant for that reason, but still try to use it every day. I like Skinmedica tinted mineral sunscreen, and also recently tried Sunglow sunscreen from Kinfield and really like it (it's got a rose gold tint that I find more flattering)
Ordinary (the brand) products are great and inexpensive. Also a good sunscreen is key! I second tentinoin if your skin can handle it!
I have very sensitive skin and the following has worked for me:
AM
- azaleic acid (I have rosacea and it helps with sensitivity)
-mineral sunscreen
PM
- cerave cleansing balm (removes sunscreen)
- cerave hydrating cleanser
- cerave PM
- retin A 0.025%
If you're not veg/vegan I've found the tallow products from Summer Solace to be hugely effective at keeping my skin moisturized with minimal ingredients. Their soap and moisturizer combo has saved my tricky combination skin.
They also have a very straight forward sunscreen that works and is essentially just their moisturizer plus zinc.
Their chapsticks are also life-changing and I can't recommend them more.
I enjoy the face wash from CeraVe, their lotions are good too. I second The Ordinary, I use their niacinamide and their toner is good too if you need a chemical exfoliant. Definitely get a good sunscreen. My favorite is Elta MD.
This is me.
I just do a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, sunscreen. On days I remember -- I do vitamin c in the morning and retinol at night. From what I've heard, sunscreen is the important long term
Dr. Hauschka, The Three Ships, REN
Tree of life vitamin c serum, and the moisture from live tinted. Since it's tinted, it can look different on different skin tones. It's a mineral sunscreen
