Accept it for what it is. Job security isn't a thing in 2025, no matter how good you are at what you do. All you can do is put in your best effort, keep your resume updated and network shamelessly. Every day you clock in to work could be your last. You need to prepare accordingly.
It sounds like you might have already had the most important revelation, which is that layoffs happen and you can't take them personally. Somebody in an office somewhere was looking at a spreadsheet and decided people had to go, and you got caught up in it. It puts you in a bad spot, but just be practical from this point on. Get your unemployment claim working right away, don't dawdle on that. And shake off the negativity as best you can and get on the job search.
I like to make myself a valuable and resilient asset. Like a wild card, it can adapt according to the company's needs. I'm constantly learning different and more efficient ways to do the same job. Does that mean they'll never fire me? No, but it makes it harder for them to do so, and helps me feel more secure.
