Folks on the bowl (both retail and hospitality), what are some perks at work that keep you going? We have a new manager who actually cares for our happiness, and asked if we would make a list of things we would appreciate. I'm not used to this! So much that I have no idea what to say.

I have pretty good health insurance and a great store discount. My family loves it too because twice a year we can share our discount with friends and family. I’d also say that being able to take time off is important, especially since that can be hard when you work in retail.

What keeps me going at my workplace is the loyalty that my company has for me which is rare these days. I also love how flexible they are with our schedules and the benefits we have within the company. I’m glad you have a manager that cares about your wellbeing.

Simple stuff goes a long way: predictable scheduling, real breaks, an actually enforced “no abuse from customers” stance, and small things like free coffee, shift meals, or transit help. I’d also put “no guilt for taking PTO” on the wish list.
