For the people who didn’t grow up with rich or “comfortable” lifestyles- what’s the nicest thing you’ve done for your parents since you started making good money?
Also, did your parents ask or did you just do it?

I got my dad tickets to ride in an old WWII jet. He’s an air and space nerd - big into planes.

Took my mom on a trip with me to Scotland. She’s always wanted to go, but could barely afford to go to the in-state amusement parks, let alone overseas.

Just did both. They didn’t ask, and tried to refuse them at first. But they were both experiences we were able to do together, so they finally agreed.

It’s funny that I’m doing the same thing for my mom. Her bucket list places are Germany and Paris so I’m sending her to both the week before Christmas.

Bought them a house when I was a manager and was making enough money to afford mortgage for two houses, cars(s) they need to get around, and any thing else they need…anytime. They never ask for anything. I’ll never be able to repay for the sacrifices they made to bring me up, and to enable me to be who i am today.

That is so so incredible!!

I got them a Dyson for their anniversary. One of those things we couldn’t afford growing up but actual made life easier.

Treat them out for dinner and brunch. It’s the little things that matter — quality time.

This. Flew my parents to my new city a month after I took my first big corporate job so they could see where I live, we just hung out and went to a nice dinner.

My mom (widow) remarried wealthy. I send her screenshots of my awards.

She’s happy!

I loaned my mom money when she needed it and buy her groceries and dinner whenever I go back home. It can’t repay her for the sacrifices she made raising me but I thoroughly enjoy surprising her and finally being her support system (instead of the other way round).

House my mom for free to allow her to give up her apartment and travel the Caribbean. She spends 2-3 months at a time out of the country and lives with me between trips. She had me young and didn’t leave the US for the first time until a few years ago. The money she would be spending in rent here she just uses to travel around now.

I bought my parents new phones and took them to Hawaii.

Didn’t ask, just did it because otherwise they’d never accept it let alone ask for things themselves.

I helped my mom with some of the costs she couldn’t cover to buy her apartment ( around 10k) .Also I help pay for stuff during trips to see her more because she lives out of country, and j split costs with her even when we do stuff/ finally get together and do her resumes and interview prep for jobs. She’s never asked! But we’ve always been each other’s support system and I’m so glad I’m a helpful part of that team now. My dream would be to help her with a nicer forever home down the line

I am possibly going into a cyber security role where I would be leading internal and external content. Thing is, my career has mainly been in fashion which I am trying to move away from, to get into the tech space. This is a great opportunity that will definitely teach me a lot and help get me further into tech. Problem: I’m scared. I’m scared I won’t enjoy it, scared I’ll be bored!!!, scared I’ll fail, scared I’d be making a mistake. Any advice? Has anyone pivoted like this? I want to be open.
