Not dumb. As a freelancer, if you have an S-Corp or LLC, you can write off a lot more items than as an individual. Helps to have 1099 employment. If you were W2, not so much. But I have an accountant who looks after me. Wink Wink.
i just put all meals on a biz credit card and my accountant writes off the max he thinks we can get away with.

You can write a ton of things off if you’re on 1099 and filing a schedule C sole proprietor, but these days most agencies pay by W-2, which means you can barely write anything off, including meals.
