Not one bit. Giving notice soon.
I am currently at JL, and was quite surprised at how toxic the work environment is. The majority of the associates I came in with have lateraled to other firms or in house. It comes down to the fact that partners do not support associate growth either professionally or personally. A lot of us are struggling right now.
That’s what I’ve heard in my city as well.
I recently left JL to make more money, but besides the lower pay I enjoyed it. But I’ll say it was very office specific. I had a great mentor in my office and really loved my coworkers. Otherwise, the caseloads and hours I billed were very heavy for what they pay.
Mid-level associate at JL. I really love it despite the pay. Feel free to DM me!
Feel free to message me- I came from somewhere where pay was even worse so perspective is everything. Love the people I work with and everyone has been pretty collaborative. I agree that the workload is heavy and people are busy but I think that is going to be the case anywhere with employment. Everyone would want to make more but they are self aware about that and most “BigLaw” firms either have small employment groups or generally have groups that just support transactions etc… they make it pretty clear what you need to do to advance. A lot of smart people and interesting work.
Have 2 friends that were there for nearly a decade before going in house (one in NYC and on in NJ). Both liked it, never loved it. Some partners have a very old school style that’s tough.
Do you know what the entry level pay at Jackson Lewis is?
Smaller-ish (but not the smallest) market first year starts at $117k
I'm in the Midwest (in a city where JL's pay is actually top of the market) and I like my office a lot. I've been at three different firms. JL is by far my favorite. Don't see myself leaving any time soon unless I were to move or have some great in house opportunity.
