I would do 30 days.
Offer negotiations/letters where I work requires/requests minimum of 30 days for Sr Directors and above
The potential new employer does expect me to give at least 4 weeks but I think I would feel best to give six weeks just based on some of the initiatives that I would need to wrap up. Do you think that is acceptable? I’ve worked for this company for 25 years.
Agree with others. 4 weeks/30 days is a good amount of time for someone at director level. They might not want you to complete the full 30 days but they will be grateful you gave at least that much notice.
One month
Technically, you want to give 30 days to five weeks assuming you don’t work for somebody who’s vindictive and will fire right away and will let you work off the remainder of your time. have to feel it out and see if you trust your employer or not I have been in a situation where I’ve given proper notice and was fired a week later Which was a tough position to be in so now I’m a little hesitant about giving that much notice.
Agreed on 4 weeks - and be prepared that they may ask you to leave sooner depending on where you’re going. If it’s a competitor, maybe companies have policies that they have you leave straight away. So I always recommend making sure you’ve done everything you want to do before giving notice.
It depends on why you are leaving and how you are leaving. In the past I've seen:
Good transitions where you help hire your replacement take anywhere from 30 days to 6 months.
Not so good transitions where things go sour over policies/politics/new Board/ or even a happy life event that isn't see as happy by higher ups (like a new baby) take 24 hours.
