For those who served in multiple branches, which were they and how would you compare the different experiences?

16 years enlisted USAF flyer. Commissioned into the USNR. Didn’t care for the hazing as the boot 🥾 ensign. Especially when one of the other ensigns was happy to play along. I knew commissioning would be a step down, but I didn’t think it would that far down! 😂😵 I went back to the USAF to finish 25. Go Air Force!

USN officer culture can be quite toxic in certain communities. The phrase “we eat our young” certainly held true during my 8(ish) years as a SWO.

Mix that in with our obsessive-worship of the “Chief’s Mess” (which goes far beyond the normal respect given to senior enlisted in other branches) - there are all sorts of weird dynamics to navigate (which really makes you jaded after just a few years).

Enjoyed my time - but looking in from the outside now, I definitely understand why they’re struggling to keep folks.

Perspective. I’m retiring from the service and I’ve positioned myself decently to be competitive. I have a graduate degree pursuing a doctorate, LSSBB, ScrumMaster, SPHR, and PMI-ACP. I’ve been offered two positions that are great and on the human capital team. For someone in this situation where should I be looking as commensurate with my certifications and experience?

Anyone here downshift in life post service?

Feel like I've been going full bore for the past decade and literally have no problem continuing the trend. Like I could just keep marking milestones and grinding or whatever until I die.

Wondering when if anyone else felt similar and decided to pull back and do something more relaxing. What was the catalyst, what are you doing, and are you enjoying it?

I'd considered taking up a 9-5 somewhere but not sure if thatd wear off fast.

I am a traditional reservist so I never really used military benefits before, but could use advice here.

I am currently renting and my lease is not up until October 2021, however I found a good deal on a home and scheduled to close in June 2021.

My landlord will not work with me to end the lease early, so it looks like I will have to double up on rent and mortgage through the summer.

If I went on active duty orders, can I use those orders to break my lease early without penalty?
