Genuine question: How are people affording extended sabbaticals? I’ve seen a number of peers take 3+ months off, some with 1 or 2 kids, a mortgage, and no significant second income. They’re not high earners either. I’d love to take a summer off to spend with my kids, but I can’t quite figure out how to make the math work!
If you’ve done it (or seriously considered it), how did you plan for it financially? What trade-offs did you make? I’d really appreciate any insights.

Does anyone have advice on transitioning from insurance to another industry? I am Vice President of a small commercial brokerage- basically I do everything except write the checks. I want to move to a more structured corporate role in marketing or strategy somewhere like American Express or JP Morgan. Any thoughts? Anyone successfully pivoted? I can’t even get an interview outside of the insurance industry. I have 2.5 years experience in insurance, before that I was in restaurant management.
