Was for 20 years. Now corporate.
Might be the honeymoon phase, but I would go corporate. They have more resources, marketing team, and actually have real training to help you write bigger business. The independent agency - you’ll always have to sell the owner on a good idea and like any dictatorship you do not get a real reason why they slow things down. The end game of an IA owner is to sell to a big brand anyway.
I do, I love independent so much better than captive! It’s so much easier to close a sale when you have options.
I’m in new business production at an independent agency in Florida.
Yes! Currently at an independent agency.
We are somewhat independent, owned by a holding company but virtually left alone.
I worked as a producer for a corporate company for 10 years and made the move to an independent agency and have now been there 7 years and I would choose independent 100x over.
So much more freedom and easier to write business honestly.
I actually made the change because I was so tired of our one carrier not being a fit anymore. We know insurance is not one size fits all, so it is nice to have options to offer the client that best fits their needs.
The carriers have much more of a feel of WANTING to write business and they know you have other options to write with so they are a lot more open to looking at things case-by-case vs just cut-and-dry guidelines with one company.
