Sounds about right if a bit low. Rule of thumb is 1/3 of collection. Based on your numbers, you bring in about 400k so you should get around 130k, give or take.
I’d hire you on that !
Without knowing the COL of where you’re at it’s hard to say. If LCOL this could be decent, still low but with 100hrs per month it’s probably not a bad life. That said, I’m in a HCOL area and made more as a 1st year, and when I went in house as a 4th year I made $195k (wasn’t eligible for full bonus the first year there) and worked 30 or so hours per week total. Make much more now at my second in house role as a rising 7th year.
HCOL area.
Unless you're logging a lot of unbillable hours, this seems like a fair shake/good set up to me. I went to a reduced hour position at my Atlanta firm of about 40 lawyers and am making $165K for 1200 hours, as more of a 8-10th year counsel role.
Yeah I am definitely in a good spot, I suppose the biggest factor not already mentioned is that I am in a HCOL area.
100!!!! A slow month for me is 175. Can you bring in some of your own cases and get a percentage if you want more $$?
Yeah like I said, the case load isn't huge. If there were more I would bill more, its not like the partner handles anything exclusively without me, especially litigation, that is all me at this point.
But of course, building my own book would make it a no brainer. That is not the case however.
Chief
Is that total comp or do you have bonuses not included in that number?
total comp.
You have a good gig. You’re basically working part-time.
