It's debatable. Studies show that good looks often make people take you more seriously however none of the successful people in the industry are that good looking(unlike the actors who play them in movies).
Hmmm. Not seen that on first person basis however from what I've heard from my peers there's some bias towards girls(esp good looking ones) in most of the companies, cannot say for sure if it's because of biology or just empowerment of women.
Any how it's more of the work that matters the most at the end of the day. See from this perspective : if you are a manager definitely you'll want your life to be easy so when a chance come to give promotion to one of the person under you will you give it to someone who has shown leadership skill, better understanding of tech and can make your life easy or to someone who is really goodlooking but has shown none of the other qualities.
It's as they say hard work trumps natural talent

Well, it's subjective. I would say a strong personality matters far more than good looks.
I'm strictly talking aesthetics here.
I guess there would be a threshold of "average looks", post which the incremental returns on looks would be zero.
i.e., I think if you look average and above, then the playing ground would be levelled for both you and the much better looking other person.
Short term may be … long term doesn’t matter.
