I applied to a job opening on Accenture site on Nov. 16. Around Dec 16, my profile got rejected, without any calls or emails. I was told that I could apply only after 6 months. So, I replied on May 20th (6 months from Nov. 16). I got a message saying that the profile already exists. So, I waited for some more time and applied on June 18tg. This is the message I got [We already have this resume in our database which we received from you or some other sources] How long do I still need to wait?

2 weeks after I started my job (end of June), another large pharma I had applied to back in April reached out about a more senior role with better pay (~20-30% more). I thought, why not, and interviewed with 3 VPs. Then they went quiet for three weeks.
Today they reached out saying they want to make me an offer. The thing is, the resume they have is from before I started my current job, so they do not even know I am working somewhere else now. They told me they want to put an offer together and are essentially asking me to provide documentation on whether I’m walking away from bonuses so they can make it up with a sign-on bonus. The amount I would be walking away from is not a real concern at this point, but I am concerned about the optics of not having let them know that I had started a job already.
Should I come clean and say I just started somewhere else (and try to add the bonus stuff to the offer) — or choose not to mention the bonus now and only bring it up if asked? This new role feels like a better fit, although I still would want to talk again with the hiring manager and possibly the skip mgr to understand the stability of role, given they went quiet for so long.
Any insights you have (either from hiring team, interviewee, or recruiter) on what I should do would be appreciated!
We need a little more context on the type of companies we’re talking about and what the current vs new role are. You’re definitely going to burn bridges but up to you to decide if it’s worth it for the money, seniority, etc.
Practically speaking, you’ll have to disclose the new job during your background check, and some employers (especially smaller ones) look at it; I don’t think big pharma would care enough about the details of the background check as long as you pass it (by not lying). You could omit this new job on the check and say you were unemployed, but again not sure if the new place would care enough to look.
I’m only one person and not representative of the whole population, but I’d likely just pretend this current job didn’t exist. Would say I’m not leaving anything behind unless you have documentation from your old old job that you left when you took this current one. If it’s large pharma, moving up roles is a years-long process, that usually happens not within your team but by applying to another team, so if I have the chance to move up right now I will. I’m also (pathologically) always chasing money and status, so take that as you will 😂
Thanks for your perspective. This new role would be a Director level at a top 20 pharma co, HCOL city. Overall it seems to be a better fit for my work experience, and it is a step up in title.
The money difference is meaningful to me (mid 5 figures) although that’s secondary to my career trajectory at this point in my career. My experience at the current company has been OK but it doesn’t feel very high impact and a bit disorganized, in marketing tech. This new role is in strategy / ops and innovation which really is my background, but the new company has a reputation for having more reorgs.
I am getting somewhat conflicting advice. I would like to be transparent but not sure if that’s the right strategy… friends in more conservative industries like pharma (law, finance) say not to disclose directly to the recruiter, and friends in tech all say I should just disclose and negotiate for even more.
I don’t have a good answer for you, but it’s truthful. I was in a similar situation a couple months ago, might even be the same role. Similar situation, strategy role at coastal Big Pharma. I had just received an offer and started a new job at midsize pharma when Big Pharma reached out. I did disclose that I had recently started a new role during interviews because they were asking about what I’m currently doing. Everything was good until then; they instantly went cold on me. I was truthful, but definitely regret it. I’d keep it close to the vest if possible.
It’s a small world. You’d be surprised at who knows who. I recommend you disclose that you’ve been working for a new company. Just be honest. It will help you in the long run.
