Many military folks are institutionalized (watch the Shaws redemption). It's hard to acclimate to civilian life if that's all you've known. Many fail because the continue to try and do the same things outside the military that the did inside. Depending on where you work, that won't be successful in most cases.
I was once also fired and told it was because they found out i was a veteran (i sued but it took months to get any money). Not all veteran experiences are the same.... and not all civilian experiences are the same
Please share what company
There are plenty of reasons folks go that way. In my city, the VA doesn't have specialty care or even mental health appointments for months, so they refer you out to community care who also isn't available for months. Yes, we get discipline and pay or whatever, but my point is that it's generally for some "mission." Without that purpose, some vets are just lost. I exist to put food on the table for my family. If not for that, I'd probably be in a bottle somewhere. Homeless? Probably not, but.. still likely not seeing a provider. If you let things like that build it can be easier to just give up. What are you really giving up if you're not fighting for anyone but yourself? Kind of an odd way of looking at it, but when I see a homeless vet here who can't get help, I feel like I get it.
