Has anyone else stayed in a job way too long just because you actually like your coworkers? I’ve been here three years, and the work is soul-sucking. But I’ve got a close-knit team that makes the day bearable. It’s such a weird limbo… emotionally exhausted by the job, but afraid of losing the people who get it. I know I need to move on, but I don’t want to lose my support system. How do you make the decision when they are the only thing holding you there?

I’ve been there. What helped me was having honest conversations with a few teammates. Some were already job searching too. Real friendships survive new jobs… and you might even help each other escape.

You are pretty normal to be honest. The devil you know is better than the one you don’t and change equals risk. You cannot let the past get in the way of your future.

You will make new connections and those you have today, if worthwhile and not mere convenience, will carry on regardless where you land. If not then they were not real friendships. Merely acquaintances that worked at the same place.

Absolutely felt this! I think you have to realise that the people will always be there if you want them to be, I’ve kept a few friendships from previous jobs

Well that depends if it’s platonic or not maybe

This was me at the company I just left. I had the absolute best coworkers, and we all got along so well. It took them sitting me down and telling me I deserved better for me to realize I couldn’t stay just for them. We’re still friends to this day.

100% I stayed at a job longer than I should have because of my coworkers. It made me realise that they’re friends who I can see outside of work though

The next time someone says there’s no such thing as white privilege - especially for the rich and males - point them to Donald Trump. Who else could get away with the shenanigans he pulls? A black POTUS? A female POTUS? Nope. Only a white *rich* male could act like Donald and have half the country backing him. FFS, Obama couldn’t even wear a tan suit.
