I have a free standing one and it works great: Merax Barbell Rack 550LBS Max Load Adjustable Squat Stand Dipping Station Gym Weight Bench Press Stand. Note that my gym room has wall to wall carpet on the floor. It’s solid and never moves.
As long as your floor is relatively level it should be fine. I have a free standing “sumo” squat rack because my basement ceiling is too low for a full size rack. Works great for my needs. Looks like this:
