Has anyone had luck sending a resume and cover letter to an employer? I want to be intentional about the places I apply to, even if they aren’t necessarily hiring. I want to make sure my next move is a good move to a good company.

Absolutely I'm all for the covering letter! I've had personal responses back including offers for different positions they feel I'd be better suited to or even just personalised rejections with reasons.

Yes

Here is hoping. I sent my cover letter and resume out today for a few positions I’m interested in. Plan to follow up in a week if I haven’t heard anything, and will hopefully hear something back. If not hiring, maybe a good way to be on their radar when something does open up.

Worth it at this point. I’m ok in my current job, but would love to make a move to something better.

It can work, especially if the company values initiative. I’ve seen people get attention simply by reaching out thoughtfully instead of mass applying everywhere. Even if it doesn’t lead to an immediate opening it sometimes puts your name in front of the right person.

I’ve tried that approach, and it can work if you’re strategic. Tailoring your resume and cover letter to show exactly why you’d be a fit—even if they’re not actively hiring—sometimes gets you noticed when a spot opens up.

I keep seeing new GD reviews about the company moving away from the hybrid work model and mandating RTO. Can any current employees explain what’s going on? A year ago, I got promoted to Art Director, and since our team is pretty small, I’m still very hands-on in terms of designing. I’m currently responsible for creating online advertising, branding and everything that goes into our social media channels (design, not content). I want to ask others Art Directors here, what responsibilities you have. What your day-to-day looks like? I’m still doing everything that I used to do when I was a Lead Designer. Am I missing something?

My wife and I are moving to Boston from overseas (we’re from Italy and we’ve recently won the diversity visa green card lottery).

We are looking to rent a 1BR starting in January, ideally for ~$3k/month. I’ll be working in the downtown area.

Do you recommend we go for a serviced/luxury apartment (e.g. Montaje, 345 Harrison, etc.) or hire a broker to get a “normal” apartment?

Any managed buildings recommendations within our budget? Also, what are some good brokers we could work with?

Thanks!
