Curious about the answer too
I think in a way bigger is better. I came from B4 to an MM IB bank, the B4 by and large was SIGNIFICANTLY better resourced and had a much bigger and more robust class than the bank. Mind you this is supposed to be a very reputable bank as well, but I was pretty disappointed that they were so technologically behind despite all the revenue they generated (manual trackers, poor PowerPoint tools, emphasis on doing things manually instead of automating tasks).
The other bigger caveat was that because this bank was smaller, the culture just sucked insofar that no one seems self aware that this job sucked. It made it so suffocating to deal with these hardo personalities. The B4 at least knew that these places are platforms to exit elsewhere, so it made networking and making friends so much easier when it came to wanting to leave. I am now more reluctant to join a place that prides on “culture” as a selling point. If interviewers disclose the WLB isn’t good or it’s a bit tough, that’s more an admission of honesty and transparency to me and might be a green flag depending on that person. I could be horribly wrong with my take but who knows.
I’ve left the bank since. As much as I am grateful I broke into IB with the firm, I wish I went to a better shop with a better IB class from the B4.
If you ever make the move bring me with you please 🙏
