I am on my second year of STEM OPT. Was not selected in the H1b lottery this year. Have another shot next year (still low chances of getting selected). I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.

I already did the pre interview call, assessment, technical phone interview with director and now am invited for the (I believe final) on-site virtual interview for a quality assurance engineer I role. What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. My fiancé moved abroad for med school. Long distance is hard but I love my job, the work, the people, and the culture. I wish there were roles where you could work abroad. I wish I could work here forever, but I’ll likely need to switch to a firm that allows working abroad at some point to save the marriage. I’m afraid to tell anyone because I want to maximize my time/contribution here. Thoughts? Advice? Does anyone know of good firms that allow abroad work?
