Guess it depends what u wanna do. That industry job sounds pretty cushy but I will say it’s kind of a kick in the stomach in industry when that 1% yearly raise sets in and u realize you’re gonna be making that salary for prolly the next 10 years with little change.
ER is a grind. I exited industry for biotech ER and it’s the furthest thing from cushy. The comp will scale nicely and you’ll have a real shot at the buyside and making serious money.
What are u trying to solve for? Work life balance? Do u have the energy to grind it out to max ur comp potential? Also are u sure your analyst is cool? Your experience in ER is highly dependent on analysts. Much more than firm
Agreed however re: 10 year time horizon in industry, there is plenty of opportunity for promotion / growth in TC assuming one has a decent balance of hard/soft skills
Thanks for the feedback. I don’t mind the grind especially for the upside that buyside potentially offers (earnings seasons I hear is a killer). Analyst seems like a great person from interviews.
I actually heard that biotech ER comp doesn’t scale great if you don’t exit, so I wanted to get some insight what potential comps are if you do enjoy the sell-side and compare it to industry s&o.
Sell side to buy side is like consulting to PE I’m told. It’s an exit in the sense that it’s possible not in the sense that it’s feasible.
Btw how’d you get the S&O role and avoid the corporate strategy exits I usually see from LS consulting? Was your project work more pipeline focused and less commercial?
My role centered around process optimization of upcoming therapeutic pipelines
