Have technical interviews started setting expectations that do not always reflect real world work? A few years ago, I was in a remote technical interview when my webcam suddenly went blank, but the discussion and problem solving continued without any issues. That experience made me realize that unexpected technical problems can happen to anyone and do not necessarily reflect a candidate's ability to do the job. What do you think is the most unrealistic expectation in technical screening process?

Started? Tech interviews haven't reflected real world work in a long time.

Giving take-home assignments that take a whole weekend. If they can't get a reasonably accurate assessment of your abilities after a couple interviews and/or a 1 hour LeetCode challenge then they don't know how to measure technical proficiency. Abusing peoples' free time by making them write an entire throw-away application with tests and deployment artifacts says a lot about their culture.

An executive of a major Telecom company approached me with an exciting opportunity. All details have been finalized for them to provide me an official offer other than the final compensation. The executive had asked me to provide a salary range that I was looking for which I did, but now wants me to provide my W2 from previous years of employment along with a breakout of this year’s compensation. Not sure how to proceed with this request. Any tips or insights would be highly appreciated.

Hi Guyz,

I went through the entire recruitment process and got selected for IBM ISL. Now I am being told by the HR that they are unable to release offer as there is a hiring freeze.

Can any one please tell me if its correct or just an excuse not to give me offer. If its true, when will this freeze be removed?

I am starting a 4-months internship at a company B in January. However, I just heard from a company T that they will interview me for their full time position.

Company T is paying me way more (twice) than Company B. And I like company T more. However, they want me to start working in February if I get this position. If I end up getting the offer, I will have to quit my internship at Company B, almost immediately after I begin the internship.

Is this okay?
