Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

He/she’s not wrong. If they know you’re not going anywhere why would they willingly pay you more for the same job you’re already doing for less.
Once you have a real offer, you can try again. But statistics show it’s almost always better to accept the new offer than to accept a counter offer from your current company. Most people who accept counter offers end up leaving within a year or less anyway. Better to move on to bigger and better opportunities.

Yea most people don’t leave cuz they’re too comfortable. But the reality is, there’s no growth in your comfort zone. If you want more money, higher title, more growth, you have to hop jobs every few years. That’s just the reality of today.
I had once. I had an offer for more and my manager asked for an offer letter. I told them it wasn't finalized so they wouldn't do it. My manager saw I was disappointed and really wanted to stay where I was so he put the increase in for me so I would be happy. I really was considering the move, but I love where I work and he knew it. I got lucky, but most places would not do that.
That’s good. And I would’ve never thought they’d ask for the offer letter. Is that even legal? Lol good it turned out well for you!

You always have options—stay, go, be let go!
It IS scary bcus you could be told, …”we don’t want to hold you back.”
Dignity & Self-Respect are powerful values; if they don’t-value-you MOVE ON; live on less-pay until you find a better place.
You asked a great question; but you also confirm that you have re-occurring “Would-, Could-a, Should-a Syndrome.

Thanks. I think if I didn’t have much risk, i would! These are good points.
