Hey everyone,
Sorry, I know this doesn't relate to finance, but I really do need some advice.
For context, I am a 24yr old female. I just had my car serviced, and it came to £276, which was quite a bit more than I was expecting. Honestly, by about £100.
They told me it is because my car takes a very rare expensive oil for the change. They gave me the remaining oil, and conveniently it is not in the original packaging.
Have I been screwed over?!? I looked online and I can buy the oil cheaper!

The problem is that you aren’t just paying for what they are putting in your car; you are also paying for the service. Some oil that is “supposed” to be used is pricier. They probably gave it to you outside of the original container because they aren’t buying it in smaller containers. They are getting drums of it. If you were just in for a regular service, they should give the price up front and let you know if that changes at all.

Oh wow, that is weird! The leftover oil bit is not normal. Glad you are getting some money back and hoping you do find another place! Also, female and fortunately grew up around mechanics, so I’m no expert, but I like to think I kind of know what's going on. Bottom line, if it’s weird to you, there very well can be something fishy going on!

It sounds like it, unless you got synthetic oil and were pricing it as regular. You need to find a mechanic you can trust, dont ho back to that other place.

I wouldn't go with your dadbif I were you. Keep going alone until you find one that doesnt take advantage of you. Then you know they are trustworthy. Also check online reviews if possible.

That was just for an oil change? That's about $200 too much.

No, the standard interning service was £105 of it(labour charges) , but the oil was £101! They charged me for a full 5L even though my car only needs 3.3L because they wouldn’t use the rest so just gave it to me lol. I have since taken it back and got some money back!

Interesting

Why?

Yeah that’s such a good point. It’s so annoying but I think I’m gonna do exactly that, almost shop around a bit and see which places are nice!
It’s a shame because this place was so good for years but I dealt with a different guy to who I would usually deal with

Looking for advice: I have an analyst (9 months on the job) who still doesn’t get it - repeatedly misses comments, doesn’t follow instructions, slow, etc. I have raised this to both my MDs and they seem to be adopting a “not my problem” approach when I mention it. I had advised against hiring this analyst post internship and my MD insisted that all the issues I highlighted were fixable. I have tried teaching him to no avail and frustration with him is growing. Any suggestions for how to handle?
