During tough times it’s easy to forget we have more agency and control over actions than we’d ideally realize and accept. First story is about a CXO I met more than 10 years back. He was from an extremely poor family, where the family was struggling to put food on the table. He is sort of a super-aggressive (in terms of actions, not aggressive as in rude) executive. He took responsibility as a teenager that he’ll be the one to solve his family’s problems. Recently he retired as a CXO of one of the largest companies in the world.

I am fortunate enough to work with seniors in the industry, including CXOs, SVPs and the likes. My general observation is, nothing was ever handed over to them. They placed faith on their agency, took initiative, and went places. Am I saying everyone who works hard would be successful? No. But you’ll be ( significantly) better off recognizing your agency, and following through with initiative than not.
Happy Friday! Cheers!!

Second is about a senior I used to work with again, a decade back. His parents were working for daily wages, and the main reason he was put in school was because of free meal program offered. He eventually joined an insanely large company and settled down.
