One of my close friends work at Coursera.
I've heard they did layoff 10% of their staff (including DS team) in Oct 2024, six months ago. And they did another round of layoffs in Nov 2022, so layoffs are a regular practice here.
Thanks for the info. Could you let me know if these layoff where in India team or in outside India positions?
If you have over 9 yoe in Dsc you shouldn't always worry about job security as the first factor...any organisation can decide to terminate a new employee post probation period ..but that should not be a deterent for you to give up a chance to work in a good profile/role.
Even the best of us have taken up roles for 3-4 months and then walked out as it was not suitable/ in line with their mid term career plan.
So in today's world it's prudent to just keep a Plan B along with contingency funds (at least 6 months) along with a clear answer for leaving a role soon
Disclaimer : Never worked in Coursera and have less visibility on their current revenue pipeline
Also not sure what your personal liability situation is ..so do make that a major factor before taking up the offer
PS - Glassdoor places Coursera at 3.8/5 review rating for India , Ambition box places it at 3.6/5 (a little lower on Job security though i.e 2.7/5).. however many "top" firms are rated way lower if you go by such rating
Cheers!
Thanks for your reply. I have actually considered the other factors, but still since we get to hear about news of recession and not very sure about edtech hence asking on this.
Regardless of yoe I think we all are at some level concerned about job security. As you can never know what the future holds and what additional liabilities you can get, so having some sense of stability and security goes a long way.
How much did they offer you?
