I think it’s best to ensure teachers know their roles. When I’m in the classroom I understand my expertise is accommodations and making sure all students needs are being met. My co-teacher understands she is the content expert. I don’t step on her toes for how she wants to teach the content and she doesn’t step on mine when I need to provide intervention or modify tests. It sounds simple but I have had some co-teachers in the past who saw me as a power struggle by trying to implement certain things. I’m solely in the room to help the students achieve, not to create some power imbalance.
Thank you! This is great. My biggest goal is for us to have a great working relationship first and foremost.
Prioritize finding a way to mesh your teaching methods and the classroom teachers. It'll be helpful for you and the students, and will make planning a lot easier. It take a little compromise on both sides, but you got this!
Been there before. Happened to me at the school I worked at for 5 years and is definitely part of the reason I left. Really all depends on the attitude of your partner, and what your caseload and schedule look like. If your caseload isn't bad, and the teacher actually gives a hoot, it shouldn't be that bad.
