My dog had leg surgery and needed to be inactive for 6 weeks as he healed. No stairs, only outside for the bathroom. I brought my guest twin mattress to my living room and slept with him on the floor while he was healing (couch also works but he’d want to be with me on the couch). I have a small concrete landing and then three stairs until grass so I got plywood and astroturf at Home Depot and made a little ramp to make getting to the grass a little easier. You’ll be surprised how quickly they adapt to only using three legs!
I got a wagon for my dog when she had her tplo (dog ACL surgery). She used it for about two weeks when we would go out for “walks”. It was really helpful and gave her a place to rest (since we live in the city).
I kept her on the floor in a sort of play pen during the day and then in a crate at night. I slept in the same room as her too. I did this for about six weeks until she was healed well enough to at least walk around without injuring herself. Denver’s surgery should hopefully be less extensive though. I think steps or a ramp is a good idea because jumping will be a no no. When Riley was feeling well again I actually kept a leash on her inside because she kept trying to jump on the couch (which was great because I knew she was feeling better!), but I obviously couldn’t let her.
Mind if I ask - is that a double merle?
Ah OK. Looks like my double merle (deaf/blind).
Also this under belly sling was very helpful when she was ready to start walking again with support. I got it on Amazon.
Is it benign? 🥺
